Problem
- The founder wanted to build an app that was about logging wine
- There are a lot of wine apps in the market
- When drinking wine, launching an app does not come to mind
- The founder had a tight budget to get an app to market
- The budget would only cover the "de-risking" of what to build
Solution
- Interviewed wine drinkers and categorized them into two personas: The Performer and the Learner (casual and professional)
- Created two different prototypes based on 1. Quiz Anytime Approach and 2. Logging Wine Approach
- Tested seven wine drinkers who went through tasks for both prototypes
- Tested their ability to complete the tasks and then measure their excitement
Results
- Both experts and casual wine drinkers loved this concept of "learning anywhere"
- I validated that wine drinkers need a starting point, which is one of their favorite wines
- Users said they started logging wine but it became a hassle
- Users would stop using wine apps if they forgot to log or keep up with the tasks
- Everyone tested wanted to use this app right away!
