Overview
I lead the research, branding, UX design, and visual design of this project where I was the primary designer and researcher. I managed a team of three UX designers to help with design production, prototyping, and nurse interviews. This was a 6-month project from start to handoff to developers and it had these three primary goals:
- See if the concept would have any barriers with nurses signing up
- Create visual designs for initial funding
- Design the nurse native mobile application and the hospital admin UI (responsive web)
Cerebro first needed a realistic product design UI for a presentation at the Cedars-Sinai Techstars Accelerator.
Problem
- Hospitals depend on recruiting agencies with antiquated systems to fill state capacity requirements
- Per diem nurses wait to get placed at hospitals and don't know status or location
- Hospitals are frustrated with slow placements by recruitment agencies
- Cerebro had a presentation in two months and did not have a product designed or built
Solution
- Create first found of UI designs needed for funding (nurse and hospital admin)
- Conduct quick user testing so there was some data behind the first round of designs
- Update prototype with the UI for user testing specific tasks
- Test 10 nurses and report on confidence, trust, and completion of tasks
- Create a new prototype and validate findings from first round of testing
- Test another 10 nurses
Results
- After five nurses they stopped and were convinced this will work
- The prototype was updated to make ready for coding
- User testing showed that nurses needed to be told this was an agency
- The same language used for funding did not resonate with nurses or hospitals
- Creating some minor barriers for nurses helped the "too good to be true" issue
- The mobile app was launched in 6 months
